== The Davidson surname is Scottish. There are many different forms of the name Davidson.
The settelement of Ulster in Ireland saw an influx of Davidsons from the borders and from
elswhere in Scotland. When the Davidsons left Scotland the number one place they went
through was Ulster to catch the boat to go to America.
Scotland was going through economic and financial hardship during this time and in 1707
the Scottish Parliment voted to give up it's government in exchange for assistance
from England, giving England domain over Scotland. This would have caused alot of the Scottish to flee.

== John Davidson was born in Pennsylvania and, with his brother
George Davidson, moved to North Carolina in 1750. He settled in that
part of Rowan County which is now Iredell, near Centre Church. George
Davidson was the father of General William Davidson, who was killed at
Cowan's Ford.
== According to one story, alledgedly told by Gen. Theodore F. Davidson, this is the widow Morrison, who married a non-
Catholic in Ireland against her father`s will. They fled to the Colonies and he died on the way. She met John Davidson in PA
while pregnant and they married later, after the birth of the Morrison child.
