== The name Lorenz (pronounced like Lawrence) has an historic Coat of Arms associated with it.
The origin of the name is German and the Coat of Arms contains “A blue shield with a silver stripe and a boar.”
Spelling variations include: Lorentz, Lorrentz, Lorenz, Lorentzen (Holstein), Laurenz and many more.
First found in Hessen, where they continued to be am important contributor to the life of Europe in the Middle Ages.
Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were:
Georg Lorenz, who came to Germantown, Pennsylvania in 1694.
He was followed by Heinrich Lorenz, who came to Germantown in 1701.
Johannes Lorentz came to New York City in 1709, while Dietrich, John, and Michael Lorentz
all emigrated to England and/or America in 1709. Numerous bearers of the name Lorenz also
came to Texas in the 1840s and 1850s, including Traugott Lorenz, Christine Lorenz,
and Johann Heinrich Lorenz with his wife Anna Catharina Reinken and their three children.

Through other sources I have determined that Peter Lorenzen was from what was then the Holstein part
of Germany, near Marie Carstens' Schleswig (the area is commonly referred to as Schleswig-Holstein).
Depending upon the outcomes of numerous wars, the region was roughly split evenly
between ethnic Danes and Germans. Both the Lorenz and Carstens surnames had the characteristically
Nordic (-sen) suffix before emigration. But they spoke German, so I speculate that they were
each a mix of Danish/German (just a theory). -- Jeff

== Peter Lorenzen, one of Rockxille's (Nebraska) oldest pioneers, was a resident of
Sherman County for 53 years, living 19 of those years in Rockville. He was
born in Germany, and earned his passage to America in 1868 by milking cows
on the ship during the three month ocean crossing. He located at
Davenport, Iowa where he worked at the trade of miller and baker. In 1870,
he moved to Grand Island, Nebraska where he met and married Marie Carstens
in 1873.
Marie (Carstens) had immigrated from Schleswig, Germany in 1872, joining
her brother Jurgen, and sister Christina (Carstens) Kroeger in Grand
Island. Marie was on one of the first passenger trains to cross the "new"
railroad bridge across the Missouri River near Omaha. She often recalled
the "men in tall hats, banners and bands" which were celebrating at the
bridge crossing. She had thought, at the time, that it was all to welcome
her to Nebraska.
After living a year in Grand Island, working in a grist mill, Peter and
Marie moved to their homestead in Sherman County, on Deer Creek, ten miles
south of Ashton.

== Bennett and Clara lived on a farm south of Ashton. Later they moved to an acreage at the
west edge of Ashton and Bennett practiced his trade as a barber. He, with his brother
Garrett, established a telephone company in Ashton in the early 1900's.
Bennett moved to California in 1955 to live with his children.

“We had tornado watches
all night and my kids were glued to the sky. I love Nebraska and the
changing weather although it can rattle you sometimes. I love the
thunder and lightening but when the wind kicks up, it scares me. But
then it reminds me of those (California) Santa Ana winds and the fires. You just
can’t escape weather. I told my kids when we first moved here (the
youngest was 4 and is now 10) that the thunder came from Uncle Longin
doing the Polka with all his family in heaven. It took the fear out of
